A platform where convivence meets affordability

Glass TV is a concept project guided by my love for film and belief in technology and how it can offer benefits to today’s market. By combining innovative features with cutting-edge design, Glass TV seeks to redefine the entertainment experience.

One moment you’re using the TV operating streaming services like Apple, Amazon Firestick, and Google TV. The next thing you know you’re riddled with figuring out which application could access the show you want to watch. In fact, according to a Variety article, “Content Discovery Is Streaming Biggest Struggle,” users often struggle to recall which platform hosts specific shows or movies. This leads to frustration and wasted time searching across multiple apps the Accenture article states that 72% of users often become overwhelmed, which underlines our shift to the idea of GlassTV.

Define

GlassTV and where it fits in

GlassTV aims to put customer satisfaction at the forefront of its solution and recommends programs based on watch history. Drawing our attention to the persona card (F1.0), Jessica Moore is a tech-savvy millennial comfortable with digital platforms and streaming services. Jessica expressed her exhaustion from searching for new shows and loves the idea of new programs to devour and consider. With Jessica in mind, GlassTV aims to build a platform that allows users to discover, manage, and enjoy content from multiple sources without switching between apps.

Adding an extra step

Unlike many competitors that act as mere hosting platforms, GlassTV centers the experience around the user. As shown in the process map (F1.1), the journey begins with account selection, allowing users to connect their apps through a single email.
For example, if your Netflix account uses johndoe1234@gmail.com, GlassTV automatically syncs your recently watched content across all connected platforms. The For You page also includes a “Surprise Me” feature, suggesting new shows and movies from your downloaded services, keeping the experience fresh and personal.

Phase ΙII

Navigation Tree

GlassTV was designed to simplify how users shop for and manage their streaming services. The app’s navigation is divided into four main sections: For You, Marketplace, My Purchases, and Settings each serving a clear purpose.

  • For You: Highlights recently watched and preferred apps to minimize choice fatigue.
  • Marketplace: A hub to download streaming services and purchase movies, shows, and games.
  • My Purchases: Displays purchased products and introduces a subscription timeline to manage, renew, or cancel plans easily.
  • Settings: Split into two areas focused on devices (like remotes or set-top boxes) and user preferences, giving users control over their experience.

More differentiating features

A helpful feature in the app is the notifications button, which alerts users and helps them stay on top of existing subscriptions. Notifications will be segmented into three tiers red means urgent and yellow would need attention (F1.3). As we dive deeper into the product, users can see the option to minimize shows/movies to the bottom right of the screen, enabling a seamless viewing experience with the last interacted program. You’re probably wondering how you sign up. Easy! We enabled a signup feature through your favorite social devices like Facebook, Google, and Apple.

Conclusion

In this direct-to-consumer market, Glass TV aims to revolutionize the product streaming experience by targeting pain points like subscription management, customizable UI, and content discovery. With the growth of AI and technology, GlassTV is a fun and refreshing platform shining a light on areas of improvement in the streaming service industry.
