Introduction

Playing a researcher, designer, and initial prototype, and the wireframing stage. Being part of a service-driven team committed to fostering discovery and building connections in our communities. Together with the IPNO (Ismaili Professional Network Online) team, I helped create an application that enhances discoverability, searchability, and awareness.
Mentorship is important, and our first priority as a team is the search function. The original website search nailed names and organizations, but the accuracy of the title and the current company could bottleneck users. Which leads us to the UX audit, the main goal is to encourage exploration, mentorship, and information on future opportunities.

Phase II

Define

Auditing enabled us to pivot towards a mobile application, better aligning us with our target market. The persona pivoted from an older user to a younger audience, enabling features and avenues we hadn’t thought of, such as a calendar and scheduling features.

With this shift, our primary persona evolved to reflect younger, mobile-centric users seeking connection, mentorship, and easy event access.

Phase ΙII

Ideation / Prototype

A profile and a search function are the main focal points of a home screen. Pitching the idea of the search bar across all screens increases the number of users who want to search first. The splash is where we grab the attention and eyes of the users. Originally, my concept outlined an older but sophisticated approach to users. As we innovated, the splash became a more expressive output of our target market. Especially the login page, we wanted to encourage connection through their LinkedIn, and wanted to ensure security.

Summit Events

Summit Events, an annual event series with multiple sub-sessions, was initially considered as a fourth navigation tab. Through testing, we found this added unnecessary friction.

I contributed to the iteration that removed the tab and instead placed a Summit widget on the home screen. This improved clarity and led to a more intuitive, high-visibility event experience.

The updated Summit page now includes:

  • Event details
  • Speakers
  • Location
  • Attendee lists
  • Contact info
  • Sign-up button
  • QR code
  • Messaging

Toggle/ My Hub

I supported the redesign of My Hub, a space for users to manage:

  • Registered events

  • Past event history

  • Connections made

  • Saved or relevant content

This redesign focused on clarity and usability, inspired by familiar platforms like Slack and Zoom. The goal was to strengthen connectivity and ensure users could easily track their participation and community growth.

Phase IV

Conclusion

Community engagement starts from the ground up. Starting the foundation aspect first will increase user traffic and encourage community networking leading to an increase in opportunities and visibility. However, to do so, we must first identify the core issues in auditing, interviewing, designing, and leveraging the original designs in hopes that the last product goals are achieved and leveraged.
